SONIS Europe Ltd designs and manufactures affordable state of the art intruder alarms. Based in Buchan House at Carnegie Campus, Dunfermline for last five years, the family business is led by Bill Marr, Co-founder and MD, who has spent many years in the electronics industry and has devoted many of those years to developing the Sonis sound signature technology. In fact, he spent many hours measuring and recording changes to air pressure and movement in his own caravan to develop an appropriate library of sound signatures for the first Sonis alarm system.
All the alarms are based on "sound signature" patented technology, the alarms automatically monitor all doors and windows in a property at the same time filtering out benign sounds eliminating the need for individual window and door sensors. The entire system is housed in a compact light weight unit and can be installed in less than 30 seconds.
However, Bill Marr has big ambitions for the future of his alarm systems and needed funding to invest in the development of version two of the alarm in the short term. Business Gateway Fife provided advice on the best way to approach this and an East of Scotland Investment Fund (ESIF) loan of £50000 was granted in two tranches.
Bill commented: “In order to remain at the cutting edge of this technology and develop the product to a higher specification for new and international markets, we needed major investment in the business. Without this ESIF loan, we would never have been able to undertake the necessary research, development and testing required to meet the requirements of our new customers. We are at a crucial stage of the business and we are now able to bring forward our plans to develop even more sophisticated alarm systems for the computing, smart tv, smart phone and smart home industries.
“With Cloud based secure storage giving our customers more positive interaction and choices. We are designing for the future and will be looking to link all our systems making Sonis products truly interactive through the internet.”
He added: “The journey for us is just beginning and the ESIF loan has given us the backing and confidence we needed to take forward the business to the next generation of alarm systems and look toward the future with interactive smart home technology.”
