More Volunteers Needed to Give Visitors a Warm Welcome!
ONFife Cultural Trust is holding two information events as part of the volunteer recruitment campaign for Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries. As the volunteer programme at DCLG’s Welcome Hub celebrates its first anniversary, ONFife is delighted to announce that two of the Welcome Hosts have been shortlisted for the Fife Voluntary Action Awards this year. The Welcome Host Hub at the entrance to the venue is an essential part of Visit Scotland’s 5 Star rating.
Matthew Nicholson, aged 24 from Aberdour, is shortlisted for Young Volunteer of the Year
George Raeburn, 60, from Dunfermline, is shortlisted for Mature Volunteer of the Year.
The team of local Volunteers, who range in age from 17 to 74, are there with a smile and hello, happy to assist with any visitor enquiries, be they about the venue, the town or the wider tourist attractions in Fife and beyond.
DCL&G is looking for more friendly locals to join the team as the summer approaches and people from all over the world visit the venue.
Volunteering Development Officer, Lesley Toles said “We have had an excellent response to the Welcome Hosts, both from local people and visitors – it makes such a difference to be greeted warmly, and to have local volunteers who take a pride in their town and the venue on board.”
“We want to offer a warm welcome to our visitors 7 days a week, We are looking to recruit up to 20 new Welcome Hosts to meet and greet our visitors. It’s a commitment of a just couple of hours a week and is an opportunity to meet new people and engage with visitors from many different places – it’s very sociable. Staff and volunteers enjoy working in this beautiful building and volunteers have commented that it’s helped with skills development and building up their cv.”
Volunteer, Kat McCulloch, (pictured) aged 22 from Dunfermline, has been part of the DCL&G Welcome Host Team for several months. She is enjoying her Welcome Host role and is currently extending her volunteering with additional training to become a Town Ambassador, where she will offer welcome orientation walks to visitors.
Kat said, “I enjoy my Welcome Host role as I like meeting all sorts of people, and the atmosphere in DCL&G is great. I have been coming to the Carnegie library in Dunfermline since I was tiny, so it's lovely to be part of it. In my new role as a Town Ambassador, I am excited to be showing people around the town!"
If you are interested in joining the Welcome Host Team at DCL&G, Lesley will be hosting an information event at the venue on Friday 31st May and again on Wednesday 12th June between 10am and 2pm.
