Sterling Precision Secure Significant New Contract

Company Name: Sterling Precision Engineering Services
Company Contact: John Mitchell
Sector: Engineering

A significant share of a £3 million contract has boosted Sterling Precision’s order book, engineering a bright future for the Kirkcaldy-based business.

Sterling Precision Engineering Services has secured a significant share of a £3 million contract, injecting new life into the business and creating a small number of new jobs.

The new order, with an existing aerospace customer, will be phased in over a 12-18 month period and repeated annually. It has the potential to more than double Sterling Precision’s order book with this customer.

In order to facilitate this contract, Sterling Precision required to purchase additional equipment. With financial help from the Fife Investment Fund, it purchased a Brand New CNC CMM measuring machine (Axiom Too model), to help it gauge and inspect machined parts to the specification of its customers.

John Mitchell, Director of Sterling Precision, said:

“This new contract is significant. We will more than double our order book with this one customer, whilst diluting our reliance on the Oil and Gas sector.

“We’ve always invested heavily in the business and our reputation for high quality and first-class customer service reflects that. To be able to complete this new order to such a standard, we needed to purchase additional machinery, which we did with help from the Fife Investment Fund.”

Business Gateway Fife (BGF) is supporting Sterling Precision with specialised business growth services and supported its application to the Fife Investment Fund, which it administers on behalf of Fife Council Economic Development. Sterling Precision was awarded a grant and repayable loan to help with the purchase of a new machine.

BGF is also supporting the Kirkcaldy-based precision engineering business’ desire to increase its international sales. Whilst it currently exports machined components to America, Malaysia, Brazil and India, there is clear potential to grow its export business. Its sustained high levels of customer satisfaction and continued investment in new equipment will result in further opportunities.
